Yides is a Yiddish form of Judith, the Hebrew Yehudit, which means "woman of Judea" or "Jewish woman"; it is the name of the biblical heroine who saved her town from the Assyrian general Holofernes. The name is used almost entirely in Hasidic and other Orthodox Jewish communities, which explains its small but stable numbers. In the United States Yides ranked number 4522 in 2000 and reached its best position yet, number 2582, in 2025 with 68 girls.
