Valencia is a place name turned given name: the Spanish city was founded by the Romans as Valentia, from the Latin valens, so it means "strong" or "healthy". The orange, the paella and the Mediterranean sunshine all give the name a warm, southern feel. In the United States Valencia has hovered outside the top 1000 for decades, reached number 1214 in 2022 and ranks number 1731 among girls' names in 2025.
