Tegan is a Welsh name derived from teg, meaning "fair" or "beautiful", with a diminutive ending; it is also the name of an early Cornish saint. The character Tegan Jovanka in Doctor Who introduced it to a wide audience in the 1980s, and the Canadian duo Tegan and Sara kept it current. In the United States Tegan entered the top 1000 in 2010, peaked at number 780 in 2011 and has fallen back to number 2297 in 2025.
