Morgan is a Welsh name from the Old Welsh Morcant, probably meaning "sea circle" or "sea-born", from mor, sea. In Arthurian legend Morgan le Fay is the enchantress and half-sister of King Arthur, and in America the name became a girls' favorite in the 1980s and 1990s. Morgan ranked 25th in 2000, its best year this century, and has gradually fallen out of the top 100 to number 312 among girls' names in 2025.
