Tariq is an Arabic name that means "morning star" or "he who knocks at the door", from the night visitor that gives the Quran's 86th chapter its title. Tariq ibn Ziyad led the Muslim army into Spain in 711, and Gibraltar, Jabal Tariq, is named after him. Tariq peaked at number 648 in the United States in 2000, has been outside the top 1000 since the early 2010s and ranks at number 1599 in 2025.
