Stiles is an English surname from the Old English stigel, a "stile", the set of steps that lets walkers cross a fence or wall, so it named someone who lived near one. It became a first name thanks to Stiles Stilinski, the quick-witted sidekick in the series Teen Wolf, which ran from 2011 to 2017. In the United States Stiles climbed to number 2275 in 2016, peaked at number 1720 in 2024 and stands at number 2105 among boys' names in 2025.
