Stephon is an American variant of Stephen, which comes from the Greek stephanos and means "crown" or "garland", after the first Christian martyr. The spelling with -on gained ground in African American families in the 1980s and 1990s and is familiar through basketball player Stephon Marbury. Stephon ranked 725 among US boys in 2000, left the top 1000 afterwards and has declined from number 1530 in 2015 to number 2790 in 2025.
