Sahil comes from the Arabic word sahil, which also lives on in Hindi and Urdu, and means "shore" or "coast". It is a popular modern choice among South Asian families in India, Pakistan and the diaspora. In the United States Sahil has stayed close to the edge of the rankings: it peaked at number 1026 in 2001, just outside the top 1000, and ranks number 2281 among boys in 2025.
