Rustin is an English surname used as a first name; it is usually explained as a variant of Ruston, a place name meaning "Rust's town", or as an elaboration of Rusty, a nickname for someone with "red hair". The civil rights organizer Bayard Rustin, who planned the 1963 March on Washington, is its most notable bearer, and the 2023 film about him brought the name renewed attention. Rustin ranked number 3210 in the United States in 2000 and reached number 2280 in 2025, its best rank so far.
