Princeton is taken from the New Jersey town and its Ivy League university; the place name simply means "prince's town". As a given name it joins the recent fashion for aspirational names like Prince, King and Royal, with the added polish of an old college town. Princeton has been in the US top 1000 since 2011, peaked at number 402 in 2017 and ranks 653 in 2025.
