Pranav is a Sanskrit name for the sacred syllable Om, the "primordial sound" of Hindu tradition, and is often explained as "the sound of Om" or "the sacred sound". It is a popular modern name in India and in Indian American families. In the United States Pranav entered the top 1000 in 2001, peaked at number 771 in 2004 and has drifted down since, to number 1331 in 2015 and number 2440 in 2025 with 56 boys.
