Nyra is a modern name with no settled meaning; it is usually treated as a variant of Naira or Nira, and some sources link it to Sanskrit words for "beauty". It is especially popular with Indian American families and matches the sound of Kyra, Myra and Lyra. Nyra rose steeply in the United States, from number 4565 in 2015 into the top 1000 in 2021 at number 851, and has since slipped back to number 1465 in 2025.
