Monte is a short form of Montgomery and Montague, and it is also the Spanish and Italian word for "mountain" or "hill", as in Monte Carlo. As a stand-alone name it has a relaxed, midcentury American sound, in the company of Sonny and Vince. Monte has sat just outside the US top 1000 for decades, ranking 1443 in 2000, reaching number 1240 in 2022 and standing at number 1473 in 2025.
