Milania is a modern elaboration of Milana and Melania; Melania comes from the Greek melas, "dark" or "black", while Milan and Milana are Slavic names meaning "gracious" or "dear". The spelling was brought to American television by Milania Giudice, a daughter on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Milania entered the US top 1000 in 2011, peaked at number 759 in 2014 and has since fallen to number 1727 in 2025.
