Melia has three roots: in Greek mythology the Meliae were the nymphs of the "ash tree", in Hawaiian melia is the "plumeria" blossom used in leis, and in English the name serves as a short form of Amelia. That combination of myth, flower and nickname gives it a light, tropical feel. In the United States Melia stood at number 1486 in 2000, peaked at number 1220 in 2006 and ranks number 2527 among girls' names in 2025.
