Maleia is a variant of Malia and Maleah, the Hawaiian form of Mary, whose meaning is uncertain and is usually given as "beloved" or "bitter". Malia became widely known through President Obama's daughter, and parents have since produced a range of spellings. In the United States Maleia peaked at number 2102 in 2023 and ranks at number 2880 in 2025.
