Leia is usually read as a variant of the Hebrew Leah, "weary", the name of Jacob's first wife, or is linked to the Hawaiian lei, a "garland of flowers". For most Americans it belongs to Princess Leia of Star Wars, the fearless leader played by Carrie Fisher since 1977. Leia entered the US top 1000 in 2006, climbed from number 420 in 2015 to a peak of 211 in 2023 and ranks 297th in 2025.
