Makiyah is a modern American coinage, a variant of Makayla and Makiya with the "-iyah" ending of Aaliyah; its models trace back to Michaela, the feminine of Michael, "who is like God?". The name stood at number 2766 in 2000, peaked at number 1142 in 2008 at the height of the Makayla boom and has since declined to number 2981 in 2025.
