Mikayla is an American phonetic spelling of Michaela, the feminine form of Michael, a Hebrew name that asks "who is like God?". The spelling appeared in the 1980s and, together with Makayla and Mckayla, turned the old European name into a thoroughly American one. Mikayla ranked number 108 in 2000, its best year, and has been fading ever since, from number 351 in 2015 to number 748 in 2025.
