Lochlan is a spelling variant of Lachlan, a Scottish Gaelic name that originally described a man "from the land of lakes", the Gaelic word for Norway, and so once meant a Viking settler. The o spelling echoes the Scottish word loch, which American parents find easy to read. Lochlan has been in the US top 1000 since 2013, was number 843 in 2015 and has climbed to 644 in 2025, its best rank so far.
