Lachlan is a Scottish Gaelic name, from Lachlann, that means "from the land of lakes", the old Gaelic way of referring to Norway, so it originally marked a Viking settler. It is pronounced LOCK-lan and has been one of the top names in Australia for years. In the United States Lachlan is still a rarity: it entered the top 1000 in 2013 and reached number 606 in 2025, its highest rank so far.
