Lloyd is a Welsh name from llwyd, which means "gray" or "gray-haired", originally a nickname for a man with gray hair. Silent-film comedian Harold Lloyd and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber are famous bearers, and the insurance market Lloyd's of London carries the name too. Lloyd was a top 100 name in the US in the 1920s; it stood at number 921 in 2000, left the top 1000 shortly after and ranks number 1549 in 2025.
