Floyd is an English form of the Welsh name Lloyd, from llwyd, meaning "gray" or "gray-haired"; the F spelling arose because English speakers struggled with the Welsh ll sound. The heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson and the band Pink Floyd, named after two blues musicians, have kept the name in American memory. Floyd stood at number 1040 in 2000, just outside the top 1000, and has drifted down to number 2237 in 2025.
