Lindy is a pet form of Linda, Melinda or Belinda and so shares their meaning of "pretty" from the Spanish linda, or "soft, tender" from the Germanic lind. It also names the Lindy Hop, the swing dance of the 1920s and 1930s that took its name from aviator Charles Lindbergh. Lindy has climbed from number 2831 in 2015 to number 1604 in 2025, the highest it has ranked in the United States.
