Leander is the English form of the Greek Leandros, meaning "lion man" or "lion of a man". In Greek myth Leander swam the Hellespont every night to visit his beloved Hero, and the name later passed to a 6th-century archbishop of Seville. Leander has never entered the US top 1000, but its stock is rising along with Leo and Alexander: it climbed from number 2157 in 2018 to number 1463 in 2025, its best rank yet.
