Evander is the Latin form of the Greek Euandros and means "good man", from eu, good, and aner, man; in Roman legend Evander founded a city on the site of Rome before Romulus. In Scotland it was also used as an English form of the Gaelic Iomhar. Boxer Evander Holyfield is the best-known American bearer. Evander ranked number 4266 in 2000, entered the top 1000 in 2021 and reached number 698 in 2025, its highest rank yet.
