Lazer is the Yiddish form of Eliezer, a Hebrew name that means "my God is help" or "God has helped", and it is used in Orthodox Jewish families as a given name in its own right. To other American ears it reads like the English word laser, which gives it an unexpectedly modern edge. Lazer has stayed in a narrow band among US boys' names for a decade, between number 2462 in 2023 and number 3851 in 2017, and ranks 2782 in 2025.
