Laniyah is a modern American name that joins the popular -niyah ending of Aniyah and Janiyah with the Hawaiian lani, "heaven" or "sky". It belongs to a large family of melodic coinages created by African American parents in the 2000s. Laniyah entered the US top 1000 at number 896 in 2010, its best year, fell back out the following year and has slipped from number 1276 in 2015 to number 2364 in 2025.
