Laina is a short form of Elaina or Alaina and so goes back either to Helen, "light" or "torch", or to the Breton Alan; it is also an independent name in Finland. It has the same soft sound as Lainey and Raina. Laina reached number 1771 in 2014 and ranks number 2422 in the United States in 2025.
