Kyan is a modern name that is usually explained as a spelling of the Irish Kian, from Cian, which means "ancient" or "enduring", though for many parents it simply rhymes with Ryan with a trendier first letter. The grooming expert Kyan Douglas of the original Queer Eye brought it to television in 2003. In the United States Kyan entered the top 1000 in 2004, peaked at number 588 that same year and has since slid to number 2029 in 2025.
