Kyran is an English spelling of the Irish Ciarán, a diminutive of ciar, "dark", so it means "little dark one" or "dark-haired". Two early Irish saints bore the name, among them Saint Ciarán of Clonmacnoise, founder of one of Ireland's great monasteries. In the United States Kyran peaked at number 1031 in 2012, just short of the top 1000, and has eased to number 2133 in 2025.
