Karmelo is a respelling of Carmelo, the Italian and Spanish name taken from Mount Carmel in Israel; the Hebrew karmel means "garden" or "vineyard of God", and the mountain gave its name to the Carmelite order. The basketball star Carmelo Anthony made the name popular in the 2000s, and the k spelling followed. Karmelo rose from number 2663 in 2015 to number 1486 in 2021 and ranks number 1523 in 2025.
