Joseph is the English form of the Hebrew Yosef and means "he will add" or "God will increase"; the Bible has Joseph with the coat of many colors and Joseph the husband of Mary. It was a top 10 name in the United States almost every year from 1880 to 2010. Joseph was eighth in 2000, peaked at sixth in 2003 and ranks twenty-ninth in 2025.
