Joe is the classic short form of Joseph, from the Hebrew Yosef, meaning "he will add" or "God will increase". As an everyman name it has gone into phrases like "average Joe" and a "cup of joe", and it belongs to Joe DiMaggio and President Joe Biden. Given on its own, Joe ranked number 315 in the United States in 2000 and peaked at number 302 in 2001; it has since drifted down to number 994 in 2025.
