Joriel is a modern name, used mainly in Puerto Rican and other Latino families, that joins the Jo- of Joseph and Jordan with the -riel ending of Gabriel and Uriel, in which -el is the Hebrew word for "God". It has no biblical bearer of its own but sounds as though it could. Joriel had fewer than five births in 2000, bounced between number 4400 and number 13000 for most of the past decade and jumps to its best rank in 2025 at number 2906 with 43 births.
