Jayde is a modern spelling of Jade, the green gemstone whose name comes through French from the Spanish piedra de ijada, "stone of the side", because it was thought to cure pain in the flank; as a name it simply means "jade". The y spelling matches Jayden and Jayla and had its own run of popularity.
