Jahir is most often explained through the Arabic Zahir, meaning "shining" or "manifest", though in Latino families it is also linked to the biblical Jair, "he enlightens". The spelling with J took off among Spanish-speaking parents in the United States in the early 2000s. Jahir entered the top 1000 in 2003 at its peak of number 813, later dropped out and ranks number 1737 among boys' names in 2025.
