Ingrid is an Old Norse name composed of Ing, the name of a Germanic god of fertility and peace, and fridr, "beautiful" or "beloved", so it is usually read as "Ing is beautiful". Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, star of Casablanca, made it famous in America. Ingrid ranked number 856 in the United States in 2000, peaked at number 545 in 2008 and has eased out of the top 1000 since 2020, standing at number 1121 in 2025.
