Astrid is a Scandinavian name from the Old Norse Ástríðr, composed of áss, god, and fríðr, beautiful or beloved, and so it means "divinely beautiful" or "beloved of the gods". Several Norwegian and Swedish queens carried it, and children's author Astrid Lindgren, creator of Pippi Longstocking, is its most famous bearer. Astrid entered the US top 1000 in 2013 and has risen steadily to number 376 in 2025, its best rank so far.
