Huey is a diminutive of Hugh, a Germanic name that means "heart" or "mind", and it has a strong American pedigree: Louisiana governor Huey Long, Black Panther cofounder Huey P. Newton and singer Huey Lewis all carried it. It also names one of Donald Duck's nephews. In the United States Huey was rare at number 11032 in 2000, climbed to its best rank of 2836 in 2021 and stands at number 2955 in 2025.
