Harry is the medieval English form of Henry, a Germanic name that means "home ruler" or "ruler of the household". Shakespeare's Henry V is Harry to his soldiers, President Harry Truman carried it to the White House, and Prince Harry and Harry Potter keep it in the news; in England it was a top 10 name through most of the 2000s and 2010s. In the United States Harry is used far less: it ranked number 512 in 2000, peaked at number 501 in 2001 and stands at number 775 in 2025.
