George comes from the Greek georgos and means "farmer" or "earth worker". It is the name of England's patron saint and of six British kings, and in America it belongs first of all to George Washington; the birth of Prince George in 2013 renewed interest in it. George ranked number 130 in 2000 and has stayed between number 120 and number 142 ever since, standing at number 126 in 2025.
