Hagen is a German name of uncertain origin, usually explained as "enclosure" or "protected place" from the Old High German hag; it is also a Norse name read as "high son". In the Nibelungenlied, Hagen is the grim warrior who kills Siegfried, and as a surname and place name it is familiar in Germany. In the United States Hagen peaked at number 1240 in 2006 and has slipped to number 2044 in 2025.
