Gio is the Italian short form of Giovanni, the Italian John, from the Hebrew Yochanan, "God is gracious". In the United States it is used as a stand-alone name mostly in Italian American and Hispanic families, where Giovanni itself is very popular. Gio was barely recorded in 2000 but has risen steadily, from number 2655 in 2015 to number 1091 in 2025, its best rank so far.
