Evelynn is a modern spelling of Evelyn, an English name that goes back to the Norman French Aveline, a pet form of the Germanic Avila, whose meaning is uncertain and is often explained as "desired" or "wished-for child"; many parents also read it as Eve, "life", plus Lynn. The doubled N follows the pattern of Adalynn and Brooklynn. Evelynn entered the US top 1000 in 2009, rose from number 441 in 2015 to 301 in 2025 and has never ranked higher.
