Eleonora

What does the name Eleonora mean?

Eleonora is the Italian, Polish and Russian form of Eleanor, a name of uncertain origin that first appears as the Occitan Aliénor and is usually explained as "the other Aenor" or linked to the Greek eleos, "compassion". The great Italian actress Eleonora Duse made it famous on both sides of the Atlantic around 1900. In the United States Eleonora has followed Eleanor's revival from a distance, rising from number 12173 in 2000 to number 2005 in 2025, its best rank yet.
