Eleni is the modern Greek form of Helen, a name usually explained from the Greek helene, "torch", or selene, "moon", and best known from Helen of Troy. In the United States it is used above all by Greek-American families and has gained a wider audience in recent years. Eleni climbed from number 1743 in 2018 into the top 1000 at number 1006 in 2024 and ranks number 1038 in 2025.
