Elanor is a spelling of Eleanor, whose meaning is uncertain and is usually traced to the Occitan Alienor, perhaps "the other Aenor". Tolkien used Elanor in The Lord of the Rings for a golden flower and for Sam Gamgee's daughter, with the Elvish meaning "sun-star", which is where many modern parents meet this spelling. Elanor stood at number 8184 in the United States in 2000, reached number 1618 in 2023 and ranks number 1635 in 2025 with 127 girls.
