Donnie is the pet form of Donald, from the Scottish Gaelic Domhnall, "ruler of the world". Actor and singer Donnie Wahlberg, of New Kids on the Block and Blue Bloods, is its most familiar modern bearer, and the cult film Donnie Darko gave the name a darker edge. Donnie stood at number 950 in 2000, its last year inside the top 1000, had fallen to number 1430 by 2015 and ranks 1796 in 2025.
