Dominique is the French form of Dominic, from the Latin Dominicus, "of the Lord" or "belonging to the Lord", a name once given to boys born on Sunday, the Lord's day. In France it is used for both sexes, and in the United States it became a boys' name especially in African American families, with basketball star Dominique Wilkins as its best-known bearer. The male Dominique ranked number 525 in 2000, left the top 1000 in 2018 and stands at number 1468 in 2025.
